Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about starting therapy with us.

Are sessions covered by insurance?

Most extended health benefit plans in Ontario cover psychotherapy provided by licensed professionals such as Registered Psychotherapists (RP) or Registered Social Workers (RSW). We provide detailed receipts after each session for you to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

How long does therapy take?

The duration of therapy varies greatly depending on your unique goals, background, and needs. Some clients see results in 6-12 sessions of brief, solution-focused therapy, while others benefit from longer-term support for deeper exploration or multiple goals.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes, we offer secure, PIPEDA-compliant virtual video sessions for clients across Ontario.

How do I know which therapist is right for me?

Research consistently shows that the therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of success in therapy. We encourage you to explore each therapist’s bio, availability, and approach on our Therapists page, and to reach out with any questions before booking your first session.

Our PsyToronto Guarantee reflects our commitment to helping you find the right therapist fit and to making the process feel supportive from the very beginning.

Is what I share confidential?

Absolutely. Confidentiality is a strict cornerstone of psychotherapy. Your information will not be shared without your written consent. There are a few rare legal exceptions (such as imminent risk of harm to yourself or others), which your therapist will explain fully during your first session.
